The redevelopment St Richard’s Hospice included the remodelling of the main entrance and reception to create an improved layout; a two-storey extension linking the main building and connecting the Day Hospice and the In-Patient Unit. The programme design by Associated Architects, will meet the increasing demand for hospice care and services locally.
The changes create larger rooms suitable for group-based exercise activity, an occupational therapy kitchen; rooms for counselling, spaces for complementary, musical, horticultural and art therapy with a flexible, multi-functional large central area for socialising, informal meetings and as a place for coffee, snacks and meals. We worked meticulously with the design team of Associated Architects and Couch Perry Wilks to incorporate cost benefits without loss of specification performance and developed our working drawings and practices to ensure the highest level of finish was achieved in all areas.

The hospice remained fully open throughout the construction programme, requiring sensitive working by our managed specialist sub – contractors for Fire Alarms, Emergency Communication Systems, Door Access, CCTV, Structured Cabling/Telecomms, Nurse Call Systems and Lightning Protection.
The extended and renovated hospice now includes “The Green” in the central courtyard at the heart of the hospice and which will be a place to meet others, connect, relax, support, sit and eat for patients, families and carers as well as visitors to enjoy. The Green is surrounded by Living Well therapy rooms including an exercise studio, art studio, horticultural therapy room, hair salon, family support rooms as well as an occupational therapy training kitchen and music and film therapy room.
